Background of the Study
Nguru Local Government Area (LGA) in Yobe State, situated in northeastern Nigeria, is a region significantly affected by geopolitical dynamics that influence its border security. Geopolitical factors such as regional political alliances, historical conflicts, and socio-economic conditions have played a key role in shaping the security landscape of the area. Nguru shares borders with the Republic of Niger, making it susceptible to cross-border criminal activities, including human trafficking, arms smuggling, and insurgency. The Nigerian government’s approach to border security in this area has been influenced by the broader geopolitical context, including relations with neighboring countries and the local socio-political environment (Aminu & Olorunfemi, 2024).
